Description of Photography Services
Strong images are a very important element of your marketing efforts. Choosing the right photographer may be difficult at times due to different photographic specialties and variations in terminology used. This is a guide that will help explain our services and what you are getting for those fees.
Paul S. Bartholomew Photography, Inc. specializes in architectural & interior design photography. It’s very important to use a specialist due to in-depth knowledge of proper lighting, composition and problem solving. Many factors will influence how the subject matter appears in the final image as compared to just seeing it with the human eye. This is why so much equipment is needed to help bring what we see within the range of digital or film. A true specialist will have the right equipment for the assignment and the knowledge of how to use it in a creative and effective manner.
Assignment Description: The assignment description is a summary of the assignment as understood by the photographer. It will mention the nature of work and the number of images required by the client.
Media: The media description will state the final media delivery to the client. Media can be provided in many forms such as CDs, DVDs, FTP delivery, e-mail, film or any other new methods of storing and sending digital data. All forms of digital media should have a proof sheet to help match colors and exposures to your system. More is explained below under “Proof Sheets."
Photography Fee: Factors such as the complexity, usage and the number of images required will help determine this fee. The photography fee covers the licensing fee so you have legal and documented rights to use the images.
Assistant Fee: Not all assignments require an assistant but in many cases necessary. An assistant can be very important carrying out tasks that may cut into the photographer’s time completing an assignment. Time consuming tasks such as moving equipment and adjusting props will allow the photographer to concentrate on the project and freely communicate with the client.
Post-production & Master File Fee: Please keep in mind that not all photographers handle their own post-production. We handle post-production in-house. The post-production fee was introduced with digital and film scans. With film photography, the photographer gives the film to a professional lab and the images are developed and later edited. With digital, we handle every stage of image production. This is an added value because we know the subject matter for better color and exposure adjustments. Also, digital turnaround time is faster than film so the client may receive the finished product not only quickly but delivered in digital form such as a DVD.
Photoshop Work: This is for digital post-production work that involves in-depth retouching or changes to the original file. Sometimes a certain object can’t be physically taken out of the image view so this is where the advantage of Photoshop becomes more involved. It is important to keep in mind any potential issues that may require this service and discuss them with us before the estimating process begins.
Proof Sheets: We work with a calibrated system with professional monitors and output devices that keep factors consistent from monitor to print. Everyone has different devices so matching digital files from one system to another isn’t always likely. Proof prints are extremely helpful because they show what we see on our system. From the proof sheet your designer can match the exposure and color to the system they are working with.
Custom Prints: Much the same as post-production, we handle the printing process in-house. Not only are the prints accurate but also are available on a wide range of materials. The types of papers we use are long lasting with great tonal control and color abilities.
