Botanical Photography

I decided to try some ideas for botanical photos. I have some antique books that were kept in the family and have a lot of character.  For some reason the old pages contain a quality I feel makes a nice setting that helps yet not distract. So here are some experiments that I hope are a step in the right direction.

Beautiful photos. I really like the third one, the lighting is great there. And what’s the first flower? Looks like garlic.

Thanks! The first photo is Chive. The flowers came up recently. Chives are great for omelets if you like to cook.

Moving idea to combine fresh flowers with age old writings. Adds character to the shot. Love the Lavendar photo.

Still working on it but headed in the right direction. I plan on checking out more old books and props with nice textures.

    Hey Paul,

I like these! I’ve played with similar ideas when I worked in a museum, not with botanicals though. You’ve lit a fire under me to work this some more. I’ll look forward to your future creations on this theme.

Thanks! I have my eye on ferns next. I’m liking the background with book pages but not sure about showing the text in focus. May need to play around with background separation but it may get weird. I like these old books, one of them is from the 1870s.

Glad to meet you on Twitter :)
